Pad printing is an indirect gravure printing process in which the print motif to be reproduced is present in the form of indentations in the printing plate and is transferred indirectly to the printed material via a printing pad.

Suitable for:

• curved and uneven surfaces
• any materials
• medium and large print runs
• smaller formats/print motifs
• multicolor print motifs
• special inks available in small quantities
• special metallic ink shades such as gold and silver can be implemented
• fine and high print detail reproduction
• spot colors - HKS, PMS, RAL can be realized
• several colors can be applied in one operation

Disadvantages:

• ancillary printing costs (one cliché per color)
• setup effort for printing

Screen printing is a stencil printing process in which the print motif to be reproduced is transferred to the printed material via a fine-mesh fabric. In this process, the printing ink is pressed through the mesh using a rubber squeegee. At those points of the fabric where no ink is to be printed in accordance with the print image, the mesh openings of the fabric are made impermeable to ink by means of a stencil.

Suitable for:

• flat and cilindrical surfaces
• flexible and smooth materials
• long print runs
• large formats/print motifs
• multicolor print motifs
• high ink film application possible

Disadvantages:

• high ancillary printing costs (for printing plate production)
• print set-up costs are high
• colors are applied one after the other (one color application in one pass)
• slow printing process

Digital printing is a direct printing process in which the print design to be reproduced is transferred from a computer, directly from a file, to a printing machine - without using a static printing form.

Suitable for:

• flat surfaces
• flexible and smooth materials
• short print runs
• multicolor printing motifs

Disadvantages:

• high printing costs, but low setup costs
• no 3D objects
